Shoojit Sircar’s Piku is not a film but a canvas of reality one would visualise on the silver screen.
The film has 2 parallel tracks; one is the beautiful bond between an aged father suffering from constipation & independent arrogant caring daughter along with a subtle love story developing in the journey between Rana & Piku the two opposite personalities. A track we visualise onscreen.
The 2nd track is a journey of trapped soul in Bhashkor Banerjee which gets liberated on all his wishes coming true. Not many would have noticed about Shoojit Sircar’s story telling of trapped soul.
Right from the first frame, there is a nonstop motionless chattering on the screen to a point where one could just getup & shout Stop it. But the equation between a selfish father & head strong daughter is so lovable that it tickles your funny bone.
The height of selfishness is seen to an extent a father allowing his daughter to have physical relationships as a need but not allows her to get married for his sake of loneliness.
Mr Bhashkor’s soul was at peace when his wish of travelling to Calcutta by a car journey was fulfilled, when his daughter declares of not selling the house built by him & having a good motion after cycling thru the city on his own, eating the road side fried pakodas & living that one day as he wished.
Fully knowing his daughter would not get married if he is around. Thus now a satisfied soul & not so selfish father who loved his daughter dearly left for a much peaceful & holy journey.
Mr Amitabh Bachchan you are an Institute, it is always a sheer delight to watch you on silver screen. The daughter Piku is an excellent example to all the current generation on how one should respect, care & behave with their parents. Deepika you are proving everyone wrong & growing in all aspects as one of the finest actors of Bollywood.
My all-time favourite Rana Chaudhary urf Irfan Khan, you have added a right zest to this pickle. His natural therapies to have right motions puts a smile on many faces, the battle of ego between being an owner & driver at a same time is portrayed in such beautiful way his sober ways of expressing his feelings for Piku makes one fall in love with him.
Maushumi Chatterji & Raghubir Yadav adds sweetness to the screen. Every actor has gone into the skin to play his character, simply superb. This treat is topped up with soothing music & background score by Anupam Roy.
It is not the story but the screenplay & nonstop dialogues that makes one fall in love with Piku. Juhi Chatuvedi you have created magic in words. Shoojit Sircar’s emotions are well knitted with his daily motions & hence he could gift us a classic film Piku.
Thrumyeyes…
