For me Pink was looking back at my journey of fighting it out for dignity and respect of every girl thus creating a self defense & empowerment program for each girl who saw her as a protagonist in the film Pink… Many girls were able to relate with the onscreen characters and found justification for their behavior…
Today when Mr Bachchan says No means No, it becomes instant hit… I am teaching the same thing to thousands of girls for almost 4 years, expressing on television debates learn to say No… Because saying No is your first step to victory… Nobody can ever touch your body without your consent… May it be your boyfriend, neighbour, husband, uncle, colleague or an unknown stranger…
Danger in form of molestation & rape does not let you know in advance, it simply strikes on the door… How you deal with it is your self defense… Exactly the way protagonist Minal in Pink reacted to protect herself… It was her presence of mind & inner strength that made her act in that manner…
All girls are gifted with confidence, inner strength, common sense & alertness… Our sixth sense is very powerful… So why can’t we push ourselves little more & be confident in our behavior, approach and saying No…
You and me, we all have made some mistakes in our journey, some we regret till today, some became our learning experience… And we try to transform ourselves accordingly… Those mistakes should & will never determine our character… That’s the most easy way for society to tag a woman…
Every girl has a story like Pink, some are vocal, some hide them as dark secrets but the trauma remains… My journey took me thru various police stations, courts, colleages & schools witnessing real life experiences… All I can say, even today a journey of a woman living against all odds is like a trauma… Women who are Single, Divorced & Widow are also dignified & should be respected like everyone else… These women have courage to face the world bravely…
Just yesterday when I was teaching how to deal with molestation at home & from known people, girl came to me saying, “Maam how much I try to tell my parents about the abuse, they blame me inspite of warning the culprit, I am stopped from going out, wearing jeans & tops… Hence I refrain from telling them as my freedom is restricted…
Now along with the men & society, even the parents should be taught to respect & believe in their children, support your child & give confidence as parents you are there for your child in the testing times…
That was precisely shown in Pink, the parents stood behind those 3 protagonist in the court room… When the world is against us, it is only the family that we girls look up to… We need you to believe in us inspite of all the odds…
For me it was a challenge to create something that can be used by girls in her daily life… The way you all have supported Pink, it is time you all support me who is working on ground zero to empower every girl & boy to fight against the dangerous odds…
Thank you entire team of Pink for bringing out issues that was not openly discussed…
Thrumyeyes…
